about the studio

My name is Janey Hatfield. I have a Master of Arts degree in Vocal Performance and over 15 years' experience teaching lessons. I have successfully trained voice and piano students ranging in age from 4 to 70.

Located in Wesley Chapel, FL, I provide music lessons to students of all ages. Whether you are a beginner just getting into music or a virtuoso who wants to stay sharp, you will find our lesson times to be a challenging and enjoyable learning experience.

I pride myself on working to build a love of music in each of my students. Learning music is a lifelong process that can be shared, cherished, and enjoyed with friends and family.

30 Minute Private Lesson

The 30 minute private lesson is our standard lesson for voice and piano. During the 30 minutes, students will review theory material, progress through exercises, and learn the techniques necessary to become a great musician. Students will be given assignments and instructions for personal practice time.

45 Minute Private Lesson

The 45 minute lesson is geared toward advanced students who want more guidance and more time to get valuable feedback. The extra time will allow us to progress through more material or take focus on trouble areas.

20 - 30 Minute Voice Consultation

Your first voice lesson will be spent setting goals and making a plan. This consultation time allows me to get to know you and to understand your motives for taking voice lessons. We will begin picking songs to work on and make a plan for future lessons.

biography and experience

I began taking piano lessons at the age of 6. Early in life, I new that I wanted to someday become a music teacher. I was born with a passion for music and a desire to share that with others. In 2002, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music with an emphasis on Vocal Performance and Instruction. In 2004, I graduated with a Masters of Arts in that same field. In 2002, I began teaching at Pensacola Christian College on the Freshman level while working on my Master's. In 2004, I was offered a faculty position at Pensacola Christian College. I taught Speech class and Vocal Instruction on the Freshman through Senior class level. I gained experience teaching in the private lesson setting as well as the classroom group instruction setting.

I greatly enjoyed teaching on the college level. My students were music majors or minors and were very talented and dedicated in their field of study. I had the opportunity to prepare students for Sophomore music platforms and Senior recitals as requirements for graduation.

As much as I loved teaching college, my dream since I was a little girl was to open my own music studio. I wanted children and this would give me an opportunity to stay at home with my kids and also do what I love to do.

In 2005, I left the college and opened Pensacola Music Studio with the help of my fiance who is now my husband. I began to sign up students for lessons quickly. As business was starting up, I taught lessons part time at a local Christian School for two years. In 2007, I had a good number of students and was able to stay home full time and run my studio. During the time of 2007-2012, my students learned and grew musically. Some were given wonderful opportunities for performance in the community as well as participating in our yearly Spring Recital.

In the Spring of 2012, Pensacola Music Studio closed it's doors as a result of our family relocating to the Tampa Bay Area.

Pensacola Music Studio is now reopened as Hatfield Studios located in Wesley Chapel, FL. I am now accepting students for private voice and piano lessons.

My performance experience includes: Solo performance at community gatherings, church functions, and weddings. I have participated in several operas and musicals singing in the chorus and ensembles. I also had the wonderful opportunity for playing main roles and understudies for operas and musicals.
